AUSTRALIAN WORLD ORCHESTRA

The inaugural AWO concerts were held at the Sydney Opera House and Riverside Theatre, Parramatta, in August 2011.

Forty-eight international musicians from 45 orchestras across Europe, North America and Asia combined with 50 of their Australian colleagues from the major Australian orchestras to perform the inaugural concert under the baton of internationally acclaimed Australian conductor, Simone Young.  Performing works by Wagner, Sculthorpe (with Willam Barton on didgeridoo) and Tchaikovsky the concert has been recognised as the best orchestral performance of the year by Limelight Magazine.

The second concert under the baton of AWO Founder, Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Alexander Briger, included works by Brahms and Beethoven with internationally acclaimed violist and composer, Brett Dean, conducting his own Vexations & Devotions.

These two concerts were followed by a children’s matinee at the Sydney Opera House and an educational concert in which secondary students rehearsed and performed with the AWO at the Riverside Theatre in Parramatta.

The AWO is returning to Australia in 2013 in a concert series not to be missed.  Updates will be provided on our web site and follow us on Facebook and Twitter
