PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY
Roger Jonsson is originally from Sweden; he studied with Gunnar Crantz at the Falun Music Conservatory, with Endre Wolf and Jennifer Nutall-Wolf at Edsbeegs Music Institute, and with Levon Chillingirian at the Royal College of Music in London. He has been the acting concertmaster of Orchestra Victoria since 2012. Roger has appeared as guest concertmaster with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and is Concertmaster for the Melbourne Ring Orchestra, and has toured most European countries with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Stockholm Sinfonietta and Stockholm’s New Chamber Orchestra.
He plays a beautiful Florentine School violin from 1760 and cites his first violin teacher, Karin, with whom he is still in touch today, as his musical inspiration. Since 2011, Roger he has been a member of the Firebird Trio. He teaches at various institutions, including Melbourne University and Monash University.
