PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY
Hugh Kluger is a solo double bassist, orchestral musician and passionate educator. Described as “Breathtakingly luminous” (Guardian UK), Hugh has worked as Principal Double Bassist with the London Symphony Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Hallé, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Opera North and Australian Chamber Orchestra amongst others. In 2018 he was appointed Sub-Principal Bass of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 2021 was elected to the orchestra’s board. He was previously Associate Principal of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

Hugh has performed in festivals across the world, including the Heidelberger Frühling Festival (Germany), the Orchestra Leonore Festival (Italy), the Beijing Music Festival and the Castell de Peralada Festival, with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Gustavo Dudamel.

He studied with Alex Henery, completing a Bachelor of Music in 2012 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with several scholarships. When he isn’t working, Hugh enjoys playing electric guitar in rock bands, beer tasting and finding delicious burgers.
