The Australian World Orchestra is an initiative of Australian World Orchestra Limited whose Board of Directors is as follows:


ADRIAN AHERN – CHAIRMAN

Adrian, a lawyer, is the former global and Australian chairman of law firm Norton Rose Fulbright.

 

Adrian is a reputed corporate and commercial lawyer with more than thirty years’ experience in mergers and acquisition law and governance. A graduate of Sydney University in Economics and Law and a student in Japan during the 1970s and 1980s.

 

Adrian has served as an AWO board member since 2012 and has a particular love of early classical music works.

 

Ian Breedon

IAN BREEDON FCA

Ian, a chartered accountant, is a former Senior Partner and National Leader of Real Estate, with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.

 

Ian served on the board of Chris O’Brien Lifehouse for 10 years where he was the former Chairman and Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee. Ian is a director of RVNZ Investments Limited and a member of ASX listed Urbanise.com Limited Global Advisory Board.  Ian is a member of the boards of Altomonte Nominees Pty Ltd and Altomonte Holdings Pty Ltd. Ian is a Trustee of the Commando Welfare Trust, a Trustee of The Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust, and represents the Trustees as a Director of the Foundation and Friends of the Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust.

FRANK CELATA

Francesco (Frank) Celata is the Associate Principal Clarinetist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

 

Frank graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 1987. He then studied in Amsterdam and in 1991 he returned to Australia, where he was appointed Principal Clarinet with the then Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra.

 

He joined the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 1993 as Associate Principal Clarinet. He has also appeared as soloist with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the Auckland Philharmonia, and with the London Symphony Orchestra as guest Principal Clarinet.

 

Frank Celata is a founding member of one of Sydney’s leading chamber ensembles, the Sydney Soloists, and is a member of the New Sydney Wind Quintet. He is also a dedicated teacher, and since 1994 has taught clarinet at the Sydney Conservatorium, where he is a Lecturer in Clarinet. He has given masterclasses at the Shanghai Conservatorium and Trinity College in London, and is the Artistic Director of the Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute (AISOI). In 2013 he joined the staff of the Conservatorium of Music in Hobart as Lecturer in Orchestral and Chamber Music

 

JASON GELLERT BCom, LLB

Jason works in funds management where he helped establish BetaShares, a leading manager of exchange traded funds on the ASX. He was previously in investment banking with MorganStanley in their Sydney and New York offices.

 

He served on the White City Development Committee between 2010 and 2015.

 

Jason is also a practising musician, and regularly performs at various jazz festivals around Australia.

DAVID MACKINTOSH

David is an award-winning restaurateur based in Melbourne. He was the co-founder of the Movida Group in 2002. He is currently the co-owner and director of several Melbourne-based restaurants including Rosa’s Kitchen, Pei Modern, and Lee Ho Fook.

David is also the Chairman of the Victorian Food and Wine Tourism Council, the owner of Wanted Man Wines, a boutique winery in Heathcote, Victoria and is also a consultant to Nant Distillery.

 

SUSAN PELKA MBA, BA, DIP ED, MED ADMIN, FAICD

Susan is a Company Director and Business Advisor. She is currently the President of The River Nile Learning Centre and The River Nile independent School, Susan is also a Director of the Emergency Services and State Superannuation Board,  a Director of the fin tech start up RCI Platform Australia Pty Ltd, and an advisor to the compliance company Strytex Pty Ltd.  She was the previous Chairman of Chamber Made Opera. and a trustee of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 2001 to 2011.

 

Prior to her non-executive career, Susan was a senior executive at ANZ Bank where she held a number of positions including Head of Governance and Compliance and Head of Strategic Sourcing.  Susan is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a member of the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees.

MARYANNE SHEARER

Maryanne was the Co-Founder of T2 Tea, Australia’s leading tea retailer. With a background in fashion and interior design, Shearer established T2 in 1996, opening its first retail store in Fitzroy. Under Shearer’s leadership T2 grew exponentially with over 800 employees and approximately 80 stores throughout Australia, New Zealand, UK and USA.

 

Maryanne has won numerous accolades for her innovative vision, including the coveted Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Award in 2012.

GABRIELLE THOMPSON FFIN, MAIEX
Chief Executive Officer

Gabrielle was a founding director of the Australian World Orchestra and has served as CEO since joining the board in 2009 upon the formation of the orchestra.

 

Since the early 2000’s Gabrielle was also involved in the Australian film industry with production credits on a number of short and feature films.

 

Prior to entering into the arts, Gabrielle enjoyed a 20 year career in international banking with ANZ and Citigroup.

NEIL THOMPSON BEC, SA, FIN, MAICD

Neil was a founding director of the Australian World Orchestra and has served as Chairman since joining the board in 2009 upon the formation of the orchestra.

Since 2013, Neil has also served in an executive capacity as Finance Director. Prior to 2013 he served as Finance Director in an honorary capacity.

Prior to his executive role with AWO, Neil has had a 30 year career serving as a director and in senior corporate and finance roles with a number of public and private companies.

Neil is also a director of International Children’s Aid, a not for profit charity serving under-privileged children in Sri Lanka.
