Sophie Spencer

Sophie Spencer is currently studying at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) under the tutelage of Tristram Williams. In 2017, Sophie was the recipient of a Sydney University Sydney Scholars Award and the J. J. Kelly Memorial Scholarship at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where she commenced her Bachelor of Music (Performance) degree. She studied with Andrew Evans in 2017 and has studied with David Elton since 2013.

Sophie has performed in programs with the Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO) since 2014 and was the 2018 Principal Trumpet at National Music Camp, February Season and July Season. This year, she participated in the AYO Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Fellowship Program and an ANAM Side-by-Side project with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in a Brass Concert. Sophie has held Principal Trumpet positions in the Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s Wind Symphony and the Castle Hill RSL Youth Wind Orchestra, and has performed with Sydney Youth Orchestra, The Metropolitan Orchestra, The Musician’s Project, and Willoughby Symphony Orchestra.

Rosie Turner

Rosie Turner grew up in Sydney and after completing her Bachelor of Music at the University of Sydney, moved to Philadelphia to study with David Bilger at the Curtis Institute of Music. Following this began as second trumpet in the Macau Orchestra where she played Four Seasons.

Since returning to Australia, Rosie has played primarily with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, the Opera Australia Orchestra, and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, until taking up the position of section trumpet with MSO in 2017.

Tristram Williams

Tristram Williams maintains a busy international career as a soloist, ensemble musician, improviser and educator. He has appeared as a soloist in Germany, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, UK, Ireland, USA, China, Japan, Korea and in Australia including Orchestra Victoria; and the Melbourne, Queensland and West Australian Symphony Orchestras.

Tristram was Associate Principal Trumpet of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at age 21, before resigning after seven years to focus on solo and small ensemble work. He has performed as acting Principal Trumpet with many Australian Orchestras, and with several orchestras and ensembles in Europe, including MusikFabrik, and the Gürzenich Orchester, Cologne. 

Tristram is a member of the Australian New Music ensemble ELISION and the Australian Brass Quintet.  He is on the faculties at the Australian National Academy of Music and Monash University. His teachers have included Armando Ghitalla, Hakan Hardenberger, Reinhold Friedrich, Markus Stockhausen, Daniel Mendelow and John Kellaway. He is a laureate of major international trumpet competitions in Brussels and Eindhoven, the ABC Young Performers Award, a 2008 Churchill Fellowship, and was awarded a prize from Karlheinz Stockhausen at the 2006 Stockhausen Interpreters Course.

He has been a member of the Australian World Orchestra in 2013 under Maestro Zubin Mehta, and again in 2017 under Simone Young.
